Abstracting the Tuscan Landscape

Oil painting workshop with Andrew Faulkner

April 11-18 2024

Join Andrew for this immersive oil painting workshop where we draw inspiration from the color-rich Tuscan landscape and push the boundaries of abstraction. Over 6 full days of instruction, Andrew will share several landscape painting techniques including his process of “photo-notetaking”, bringing inspiration from the outdoors into the studio. In contrast to plein-air painting, this process relies on observation to translate your memory of a place to the canvas.

This intermediate workshop in the heart of Tuscany is for anyone who wants to push their landscape painting to a new level with dynamic color and composition. (artists must have some basic drawing and oil (or acrylic) painting experience)

About Andrew

Born into a family of artists, designers, and architects, Andrew’s paintings fuse the structural sensibilities of his architect father and the often riotous color sense of his interior designer mother. Andrew studied painting at Trinity College with colorist George Chapman who was a student of colorist, Joseph Albers and learned the art of defining space with color and value. After 30 years of success in the graphic design field, he decided to get a real job and become a painter. > visit Andrew’s website

Andrew’s work is shown at The Pamela Walsh Gallery (Palo Alto, CA), The Portland Art Gallery (Portland, ME), The Blue Print Gallery (Dallas, TX) and Ruby Living Design in Mill Valley. His illustrations have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post and Marin Magazine.

“Tuscan Light” Series inspired by travel
In 2022 Andrew went on an art retreat to Tuscany and came back with excitement about this region that inspired 20 paintings that were exhibited at Pamela Walsh Gallery in Palo Alto. He would like to share this experience with you!
